Athletics at Malvern

In the Summer term, there is training on Tuesdays and Thursdays with additional training on Saturdays when there is no fixture.

Every year, several pupils qualify from the District Championships to progress through to the County Championships and, from that, a few pupils also regularly make it through to compete in the Mason Trophy. This competition is the inter counties schools’ championships and has the aim to achieve English Schools Athletic Association standards. We are also looking at how we can support talented and enthusiastic pupils by attending Athletics outside of College time at either Worcester A.C. or Stourport A.C. in order to fulfil their potential.

Our annual inter-House Athletics competition (Sports Day) sees school records being broken year after year. This is held on Friday immediately before Commemoration.Teacher i/c Girls' Athletics: Joanna Turnbull

I have coached at Malvern College since September 2012, and this has provided me with the opportunity to work with different coaches, in a variety of different sports. Currently, I organise Sports Day and support the athletics programme alongside Simon Woodward who is Master i/c Boys' Athletics. I am working towards my UK Athletics Coaching Qualifications, which will have a focus on jumps as this is my particular area of interest.

Teacher i/c Boys' Athletics: Simon Woodward

I have been fortunate enough to coach at Malvern College since September 2014. As Teacher i/c of Boys' Athletics, I organise and deliver the Malvern College athletics programme alongside Teacher i/c Girls' Athletics, Joanna Turnbull. I have a passion for athletic development and recognise the role that runs, jumps and throws can play in an individual’s physical competency as a whole. I have a particular interest in running mechanics and the conditioning aspects of running. My aim each year for Malvern College athletes is to ensure they are enjoying and progressing their skills and striving to improve their personal bests.
