Golf at Malvern

Pupils are able to play and practice golf all year-round, or can plan around other sports and play for just one or two terms.

The Skytrak Launch Monitor and net system was installed in 2018, the gift of the Malvernian Society through the OM Golf Society.

The practice facility is undercover in a comfortable environment and allows for better training in terms of technique, with the ability to hit off a consistent surface. The launch monitor gives ball flight feedback and sets up long drive challenges and bag mapping, to plot the distance each shot travels. There is also, of course, the added advantage of no cancelled lessons in bad weather.

495-Screen_Shot_2019-12-13_at_11.19.52.pngThe College plays over 20 matches per year with most being played during midweek but there are also several Sunday competitions at Puckrup Hall GC and matches versus the Old Malvernian Golf Society (OMGS) at Royal Porthcawl, Sunningdale and The Worcestershire GC.

Our home matches are mostly played at Puckrup Hall GC, where our pupils become junior members, and occasionally matches are played at other local courses.

The main competitions each year are:

ISGA Matchplay Competition in which the College has enjoyed considerable success reaching the Regional Final and have represented the Region at the National Finals.

HMC Foursomes where we have reached the Regional Finals several times and the National Final.

Three Counties League (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire & Worcestershire) for clubs. We were the only school that played in this league.

At the end of each academic year the season concludes with our annual tour to the North-West of England where we play matches against Birkenhead School, Rossall School and Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby, which provides us with the opportunity to play several links courses including Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) GC, Fleetwood GC, West Lancs GC and Formby GC.
