Crucial to this process is the development of self-belief and confidence. Adventure training, along with military activities, Cadets are involved in a range of activities from adventure mountaineering to military exercises, from winter training in the Cairngorms to more specialised skills training weekends held outside the school on location. In addition, the CCF is closely linked to the Duke of Edinburgh expedition programme, many pupils and staff doing both. The CCF is well supported by the regular forces in terms of training and equipment and the College has a 6-lane indoor shooting range. This enables members of the CCF to compete in all the major shooting competitions.
Through the CCF, Cadets develop a great sense of camaraderie with their fellow cadets as they work together in parades and at the various camps. They also have the opportunity to exercise leadership skills as they progress through the year groups. There are few pupils who leave school having been responsible for the smooth running of camps of 80 plus, but that is all part of the experience of the Combined Cadet Force!
