Every year around 80% of our candidates gain places at their first choice universities, most of which are in the Russell Group (including Oxford and Cambridge). Increasing numbers of our pupils are also applying to, and taking up places at, top universities in the USA and elsewhere in the world. Pupils are encouraged to attend our University Fair which is held annually in January and to visit universities for themselves in May-June and September-October. They can also gather information by using the extensive Careers Library where there is a large collection of prospectuses and other publications, and by going on-line. Advice is given about university entrance procedures, interview techniques and the variety of Gap Year schemes available. Parents are, of course, kept informed throughout a pupil’s time at Malvern.

Malvern College is a SAT exam centre and is well placed to prepare pupils for entrance procedures to American universities.
Top university choices in the USA and Canada include Chicago, Harvard, North Eastern, NYU, Princeton and McGill (Canada).
Popular European university choices include Amsterdam, Maastricht, Bocconi (Milan), Sciences Po (Paris), Utrecht, Institute Marangoni (Milan), Université Catholique de Louvain (Belguim) and IE University (Madrid).

Careers
Our careers staff recognise that pupils can feel overwhelmed when making career decisions and university course choices, but we do all we can to guide and encourage as much as necessary.
Malvern is a member of Inspiring Futures (formally the Independent Schools' Careers Organisation) and makes full use of its Morrisby profiling, careers website and professional careers advisors to help pupils make the choices that are right for them. It is recognised that in a changing international climate, careers advice is essential on an on-going basis and pupils are welcome to continue to seek our help until they reach the age of twenty-three.
In the lower years, pupils are encouraged to investigate the world of work with their tutors, using information provided by the Careers Department. All pupils in the Hundred (Year 11) and all new pupils entering the school in the Lower Sixth (Year 12) take (in October) the Futurewise on-line Morrisby profiling exercises. These are followed by an in-depth interview with a qualified Careers Advisor and the resulting Careers Guidance Report provides a clear picture of a pupil’s strengths, aptitudes and interests. Pupils are then in a position to make informed decisions about AS/A2 Level and IB subject choices for Sixth Form and careers.
Every year in the Lent term, the Careers Department organises a Careers and Futures evening which give all pupils in the school the chance to speak to Malvern parents and alumni about their own career paths and to find out what qualifications and skills are required for specific careers.
At all stages, the aim of the Careers and Higher Education Department is to help pupils make informed and sensible decisions about their future.
The Malvernian Society has a network of over 7000 members who are available to support Sixth Form pupils with gap year placements or internships.
Work Experience
Malvern College encourages Work Experience which introduces young people to the world of work. These placements should be for a minimum of one week and a maximum of two weeks during which time the pupil should be exposed to the routine working day demands and disciplines of the organisation in which they have secured a place. Work Experience should be seen as an integral part of the Lower Sixth year. Such is its educational value (e.g. for university references, etc.) that it is in the pupil’s best interest to undertake a placement. During the school holidays, between completion of Year 11 (Malvern College’s ‘Hundred’) and the start of the Upper Sixth year, your child will need to take part in at least one Work Experience placement.
The pupils should consider the following criteria:
They are placed in a working environment of their choice
Their placement is near their home or other family accommodation
Their placement takes place during the school holidays.
