Art at Malvern College

A rich co-curricular programme is offered through studio workshops, printing, textiles and life drawing. This supports pupils from across the College in their aesthetic development.

The department is open during the evening and at weekends to enable pupils to develop their work, the standard of work produced is exceptionally high with a focus on technique and developing conceptional ideas with an informed understanding of others’ art practice.

The Elite Art Programme offers further opportunities for students to meet artists and designers, attend talks and workshops to extend and nurture their own work.

Art at Malvern College with Ishbel

Pupils work is celebrated and displayed throughout the College. Those continuing to Sixth Form are encouraged to be involved mainly in a specialist area in order to produce rich and well-developed coursework. Each year a number of pupils prepare portfolios for entry to Colleges of Art and Architecture. Contextual studies connected to A level and International Baccalaureate coursework are augmented by frequent visits, organised within Europe to major capitals of artistic and cultural interest. Exhibitions by professional artists are occasionally held, and the College has an extensive collection of contemporary paintings, etchings and lithographs.

Art Scholarships and a number of Exhibitions are awarded every year after the submission of candidates' portfolios and an examination to test objectivity and imagination. Natural artistic ability is obviously important but so equally is real enthusiasm at this stage. Work from the Art Centre is displayed extensively throughout the school buildings, and the exhibits are changed regularly, forming a powerful creative focus.
