From the battle and challenge of rugby, to the speed and agility of netball, our pupils enjoy a rich tapestry of sport in lovingly crafted grounds and facilities. All this is designed to enhance their experience of enjoying a hobby, the great outdoors or even regional or national competition.
Malvern’s main sports are cricket, rugby, football, hockey, athletics and tennis for boys, and hockey, netball, cricket, athletics and tennis for girls. The College has a long and established tradition in racket sports including badminton, rackets and squash. We also offer fives, basketball, cross-country, shooting, swimming, equestrian, girls’ football and fencing.
Whatever the level of participation, we offer pupils the opportunity to get the blood pumping and the heart rate up.
"Pupils' excellent physical skills are evident through the significant successes of school teams... fulfilling the school's aims to promote pupils' effective teamwork." ISI Inspection Report 2017
We strive to provide physical activity for all abilities and support at each level of attainment from participation to performance. Pupils are encouraged to participate and to strive for performance targets. We have pupils who attend training at County, Regional and National training camps.
Director of Sport | Chey Hooper-West
I have an honours degree in Sports Coaching Science (with Physical Education) and completed my PGCE at the University of Buckingham. I come from a sporty family and have been privileged to represent my province in Zimbabwe in several different sports. Throughout my school years, I played junior hockey at national level but am a good all-rounder with experience of playing and coaching a range of sports. Since working at Malvern I have taken up Rackets and, with support from our Head Rackets Coach and encouragement from the boys and girls here at Malvern, have entered several competitions and won the British Open Ladies Doubles in 2016.
My main aim as Director of Sport is to provide opportunities for all pupils to participate in sport; not just helping them achieve the best level of performance they can, but to inspire them to continue participating in physical activity as a part of their life beyond Malvern.
