Tennis at Malvern

Although Inter-House matches are only played in the Summer term, pupils can have individual coaching from the local Tennis club, Manor Park, throughout the school year.

Malvern takes part in many external competitions: the Aberdare Cup, the Glanvill Cup, Aegon league and the District and County tournaments. Internal competitions include House matches and junior leagues. Every Sunday evening, the Common Room plays against pairs from each House in a friendly competition which is enjoyed by all.

Every year in May, we host the boys' and girls' county doubles tournaments. Our teachers in charge of boys' and girls' Tennis run the sport and we also make use of external, well-qualified Tennis coaches in the Summer term.

Malvern College has been involved with Malvern Tennis Academy for a considerable number of years. Based in Great Malvern, at Manor Park Club, the Academy offers group and individual tennis lessons for children of all ages and abilities. The Academy was formed by Jane Poynder who is a LTA Level 5 Master Development Coach and LTA Master Tutor and Chris Skinner who is an LTA Level 4 Senior Performance Coach. Both have a wealth of experience coaching at all levels and are joined by a team of other expert coaches who can provide both individual and small group lessons for students of the college at mutually convenient times. Chris takes the team training for both boys’ and girls’ school teams.

Lessons take place at the school tennis courts (The Firs), or during the two winter terms sessions can be taken at Manor Park Club where there are three indoor courts plus six floodlit. There is an additional charge for use of both indoor courts and floodlit courts.
