Hockey at Malvern

Malvern College has a reputation for producing hockey players that play at a junior national level, but also cater to all abilities across our different squads.

The hockey programme for girls and boys runs throughout the academic year and is led by a dedicated Director of Hockey and Performance Hockey Coach, ensuring high-quality coaching and clear pathways for all abilities.

Across all three terms, pupils benefit from a strong balance of games sessions and co-curricular opportunities, with multiple chances to train and compete each week, alongside regular indoor provision.

In the Summer term, players can also compete in the College-hosted adult summer league, gaining valuable experience against local adult sides.

Strong links with local clubs and the regional talent academy, together with the opportunity to host county fixtures, ensure a well-connected and progressive player pathway.

Coaching at Malvern

1:1 Coaching

We offer 1:1 coaching and small group sessions for all pupils to access in their free periods or spare time. This is complemented by our use of Hudl Sportscode and Veo cameras, enabling our coaches to use video analysis to provide specific feedback for players and aid team development.

Pathway Development

A number of pupils play in the England Hockey Pathway; six players are currently competing at Talent Academy level and one pupil is part of the Wales National Age Group Squad. Talented and aspiring players use their long-term athlete development plans to improve their performance, which helps support their physical training through tailored strength and conditioning, psychological support and of course technical skills and tactical knowledge.

Facilities

We are fortunate to have outstanding training facilities at the College. These include a double indoor sports hall, which regularly hosts county and regional competitions, and two floodlit artificial turf pitches, including a hybrid pitch.

We are also the only school in the West Midlands to have a water-based pitch, used by Premier League teams for matches throughout the year.

Pupils further benefit from a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning suite, an outdoor BeaverFit training facility located alongside the pitches and access to Veo camera technology to support performance and development.
