Hockey at Malvern

Malvern College has a reputation for producing hockey players that play at a junior national level, but also cater to all abilities across our different squads.

The hockey programme for girls and boys runs throughout the year and our dedicated Director of Hockey and Performance Hockey Coach ensures quality coaching and pathways at all levels.

Pupils have the opportunity to play multiple times a week in either games sessions or as part of our Co-curricular timetable. As well as playing on our extensive outdoor facilities, which includes a water-based pitch, we also offer indoor hockey sessions.

Hockey

In the Summer term, in addition to club sessions, pupils can compete in the adult summer league, which is hosted by the College, where our players gain the experience of playing against local adult sides.

1:1 Coaching

We offer 1:1 coaching and small group sessions for all pupils to access in their free periods or spare time. This is complemented by our use of Hudl Sportscode and Veo cameras, enabling our coaches to use video analysis to provide specific feedback for players and aid team development.

Pathway development

A number of pupils play in the England Hockey Pathway; six players are currently competing at Talent Academy level and one pupil is part of the Wales National Age Group squad. Talented and aspiring players use their long-term athlete development plans to improve their performance, which helps support their physical training through tailored strength and conditioning, psychological support and of course technical skills and tactical knowledge.

Facilities

We have excellent training facilities at the College, including a double indoor sports hall, two floodlit artificial turf pitches: this includes one hybrid pitch and we are the only school in the West Midlands to have a water-based pitch which is used by premier league teams for matches throughout the year. Pupils also benefit from a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning suite as well as an outdoor BeaverFit training facility next to our pitches.

Scholarships

Talent in Hockey is recognised in scholarships at the College at both 13+ and 16+ level. Find out more about our scholarships.
