Life in the Lower School

For a young adult to thrive in the world, they must look for an education that prepares them to work with anyone and anywhere.

Our five sets of Malvern Qualities bring our diverse community together, preparing pupils to be Pathfinders, Free Thinkers, Change Makers, Communicators and Team Builders. Here pupils hone their academic skills and exceed even their own expectations.

Our dedicated Housemasters and Housemistresses, or ‘Housems’, at Malvern lead the pastoral care and treat every pupil in their House as if they were members of their own family. Our Lower School pupils are each other’s cheerleaders – always encouraging each other to strive for more.

Social life at Malvern College

Pupils are encouraged to live their lives to the fullest, taking advantage of all the opportunities available to them at Malvern, both in and out of the classroom. The unique Malvern College pupil-led Super-curriculum and our wide-ranging suite of more than 200 Co-curricular activities creates a full timetable.

Outings at weekends and evenings, social occasions in the Houses, as well as big events such as House competitions and trips abroad all provide opportunities for personal growth and it’s where lifelong friendships are forged.

“When you live at Malvern College, your House becomes your family. There is always the sanctuary of your bedroom or someone around if you want company or help. Coming together at mealtimes and for House events is always a lot of fun!”

Academic Life at Malvern College

The academic programme seeks to build resilience, ignite curiosity and awaken a passion for lifelong learning. Academic progress is underpinned by a robust support network. Classwork and homework are complemented by a programme of lectures and educational visits designed to inform and inspire.

The Lower School covers Key Stages 3 and 4 in our Foundation Year (Year 9), Remove (Year 10) and the Hundred (Year 11).

Our GCSE curriculum offers a broad range of subjects and our expert teachers impart their knowledge while creating an environment that encourage lively debate and questions. You can read more about our GCSE subjects here.

Ultimately, we equip every pupil to leave us with the tools to create meaningful and successful lives.
