SAS Lecture

SAS Lecture

As part of the Super Curriculum Programme, pupils from the top three year groups were treated to a truly inspiring and ‘eye-opening’ lecture given by a former Afghan interpreter who worked for eight years in Afghanistan with both the American Green Beret and Navy Seals as well as the British SAS.

Eddie Idrees (pseudonym) spoke candidly about the economic, social and political impact of the recent dramatic withdrawal by western forces from his homeland as well as his role as an interpreter in the fight against the Taliban. He also spoke passionately about his hope for women and their education in a regime that does not value females. At the end of the talk, Eddie then took questions from a packed Lewis Lecture Theatre as the pupils delved deep into his life working with the special Forces.

It was an evening that I am sure will last long in the memory of the pupils as it broadened their horizons and opened their eyes to a world far away from Malvern College.
