“At the base of the Malvern Hills, this school’s surrounding countryside is a runner’s paradise; and since 1876, hardy pupils have pushed themselves in its annual eight-mile slog called The Ledder. Sport here is central to life – especially cricket, with students winning silverware at national levels and even going on to sign professional contracts – and now the Sixth-form curriculum includes a sport-focused BTEC, it even extends into the classroom.
The new director of music is bolstering the performing arts and, alongside a house band, has introduced Live Lounge sessions, an all-girls jazz group and the Malvern Young Musician of the Year award.
The Grade II-listed Memorial Library has been sensitively repurposed into a Sixth Form Centre, offsetting traditional wooden panelling and grand fireplaces with modern learning and social spaces; and parents say the effects of overhauling the dining room and its culinary offering has been ‘VERY positive’, already. Next up, the school is hoping to stage more open-air community events and to forge a partnership with Morgan Motors. So parents who like the sound of this dynamic offering will be delighted to hear that sister prep The Downs Malvern has opened a nursery, so the educational experience can now start from six months.”
