Seventy of our FY pupils took part in this year’s Ferrets’ race. This year’s FY took on a very different Ferrets racecourse due to Covid-19. This year’s race was a 2-mile race around the Court Road playing fields.
This year, the conditions were perfect for cross country; we had some frost at the start of the day, and this had melted away, leaving the ground soft under footing. At the start of the race, we were blessed with near perfect conditions – partly cloudy with some sunshine. Picture the scene on our playing field at 2:30pm: the atmosphere at the start line is a mix of nerves, adrenaline and excitement. Silence falls as competitors take their places shoulder-to-shoulder. They were ready, and with the sound of the hooter, they were off!
10 Minutes and 55 Seconds later, the first boy appeared having completed his second lap: Joseph Stoc, earning himself the Boys Individual Ferret Race trophy. Isabella was the first girl across the finish line in a time of 12 minutes, 07 Seconds. She earned the Girls’ Individual Ferrets Race trophy.
In the girls’ competition, House 8 finished 3rd place with 139 points, and on 134 points House 3 finished 2nd. The winner was House 4, who finished with a total of 129 points and won the trophy back for the first time in 11 years.
The boys’ competition concluded with House 5 in 3rd place with 82 points, House 9 in second place with 76 points and House 2 in first place, with 50 points, and five of their runners in the top 15.
Congratulations to both House 4 & 2 on terrific team performances.
