Squash Report – Malvern College Staff versus Boys

The annual Malvern College Staff versus Boys squash match took place on Monday, and it was a gripping encounter throughout. The fixture couldn’t have been closer: with one match to complete, each side had won three matches and it was seven-all in the deciding set of the final match. Mr Hnatek pulled through, when the pressure was firmly on against Tommy Boorman, to win the fixture for the staff, but all completed matches were highly competitive. Joel Cox beat Mr Major in a gruelling game of attrition that seemed as though it would never end. The very promising Jay Yeo used his wide-ranging talents to overcome Director of Sport Mr Hilton in a real David versus Goliath affair. Veteran Jagger Linford dispatched the new Mr Tucker with some impressive power hitting, whilst Amaan Edavalath and Ben Evans fought bravely against wily opponents in the forms of Housemasters Marshman and Howitt, respectfully, but eventually came up short. Unfortunately, the much-anticipated match between Elliott Gibson and Mr Hardinges ended prematurely due to injury to the former after the first set. They are hoping to play again soon. The boys will have gained a great deal from playing the staff and, no doubt, some of the staff will have woken up with some aching joints on Tuesday morning!
