Congratulations to the cast and crew of the Remove play – ‘Second Person Narrative’ by Jemma Kennedy, performed last week on the Rogers Theatre stage.
The play consists of 30 scenes which capture fragments of a single character’s life, starting at birth and ending at her death more than 80 years later. In between we see her grow up, make friends, get jobs, form relationships, win awards, buy clothes, make mistakes, have a child, discover herself, and have a good laugh!
The production was highly entertaining, thought provoking and presented with a high level of professionalism. The ensemble cast were fantastic and leading roles superb. Libby J, Milly B, Clara W, Emma C, Amelia W, Noemi D, Polly HB, Chloe K, Rusheel J, Guy C, Diana C, Stella H, Joe S, John B, Ollie T, Max H, Tendai N, Asia R, Aaron D, Will C, George M, Sylvie G and Will H were excellent. Beth N’s performance as the central character – YOU – was outstanding and presented with tremendous maturity. Represented in every scene, YOU is surrounded by people who shape her and her narrative. Sometimes this is family, at other times teachers, co-workers, friends, medical professionals, or estate agents, all offering her advice at certain moments in her life which YOU either follows or rejects, charting her own path and finding her identity. Sometimes these voices dictate her direction of travel, at other times ‘You’ listens less and charts her own path. Audiences were enthralled by this production, with some in attendance identifying all too closely with the trials and tribulations experienced by the main protagonist.
Bravo to all involved.
