On Friday 12th November 2021, we were privileged to host a visit from Prof Simon Horobin from Magdalen College, Oxford University. He led two pupil workshops on the Literary Legacy of Malvern College, with particular reference to C.S. Lewis OM. The special session he ran for members of Lit Soc (Malvern Literary Society) was particularly exciting as he traced the literary and human influences from Malvern that led to Lewis’s Narnia books – a favourite amongst Lit Soc members! Readings from “The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe” were blended with readings form the Norse legends, Milton’s Paradise Lost and even some Anglo-Saxon tales. This was made even more ‘magical’ by the fact that these workshops were held in the Gaunt room in the Grundy Library – the very place where C.S. Lewis read those seminal works when he was a pupil at the College. Much thanks to Prof Horobin for being so generous with his time an expertise.
