New contemporary Sixth Form Centre for Malvern College

New contemporary Sixth Form Centre for Malvern College

Exciting plans for a new contemporary Sixth Form Centre here at Malvern College have been revealed, which will see the transformation of the existing Memorial Library into a bespoke learning and social space for our Lower and Upper Sixth pupils.

The new Sixth Form Centre, on two floors, will house a series of versatile areas that can be used for independent, self-directed study as well as group and teamwork, providing diverse working ‘zones’. It is modelled on the learning spaces found throughout universities, preparing our pupils for life after Malvern College and will also bridge the gap between a traditional school environment and modern working environments. It will allow pupils to further develop the vital skills they will need such as collaboration, problem solving and creativity.

While demonstrating Malvern’s progressive outlook, this is a sensitive repurposing of the Memorial Library, designed by Sir Aston Webb, and arguably the most architecturally significant building on our campus. The Grade II Listed building’s character and heritage will remain front and centre, keeping its beautiful period features such extensive wooden panelling and impressive fireplaces, while simultaneously creating bigger, brighter, modern learning and social spaces.

Works are scheduled for summer 2024 and are due to be completed by September, in time for the start of the new academic year.

The project will be funded through the generous philanthropy of our Old Malvernians and wider Malvernian community. If you can support this exciting project to transform our Sixth Form pupils’ learning experiences, please contact Alexandra Albright, Head of Development (alexandra.albright@malverncollege.org.uk) or Fiona Paterson, Senior Development Manager (fiona.paterson@malverncollege.org.uk) or call+44 (0)1684 581517.

Collaborative working and social space planned for The Grub

Plans to transform the much-loved Grub are underway, creating a larger, brighter, contemporary working area and social space, whilst maintaining the building’s history.

During The Grub’s lifetime it has been used as the Lower School Common Room, a dining room, tuck shop, uniform shop, match tea space and even a Covid test centre during lockdown! When refurbished, it will house a new café serving fresh coffee, hot and cold drinks, and homemade food throughout the day to both pupils and staff, as well as a tuck shop facility. Modern co-working areas will be created to allow collaborative working opportunities for pupils and staff, with relaxed, flexible seating for large group work or smaller meetings.

The plan for ‘Phase 2’ at a later date could include a dedicated retail area incorporating Malvern College merchandise and a more accessible school uniform shop. It is hoped the Malvernian Society’s Archives might be housed in The Grub too, making the College’s unique artefacts more accessible.

If you can support the redevelopment of The Grub, please contact Alexandra Albright, Head of Development (alexandra.albright@malverncollege.org.uk) or Fiona Paterson, Senior Development Manager (fiona.paterson@malverncollege.org.uk) or call+44 (0)1684 581517.
