We are proud to share that Mr Keith Metcalfe, Headmaster of Malvern College, has been shortlisted for the ‘Headteacher of the Year (Independent)’ award at the Tes Schools Awards 2025 — widely regarded as the “Oscars of Education.”
The prestigious awards recognise the most inspiring individuals and schools across the UK, from both the state and independent sectors, and across all stages of education. This year’s winners will be revealed at a ceremony in London on Thursday 20th June.
Appointed as Headmaster in 2019, Mr Metcalfe has led with vision, warmth and innovation. Among his most notable contributions is the introduction of Malvern’s pupil-led Super-Curriculum — a forward-thinking initiative designed to foster intellectual independence, leadership and curiosity beyond the classroom. This unique approach has seen record levels of engagement from pupils who are now leading a growing number of societies, clubs and academic initiatives that reflect what matters to them today.
Well respected by pupils and staff alike, Mr Metcalfe is a visible and hands-on leader — whether participating in school cross-country events or encouraging colleagues to run ambitious new programmes. His leadership style has empowered the whole College community to aim higher and think differently.
The most recent ISI inspection report praised the Malvern College leadership team for its “shared vision for a school which provides pupils with a wide variety of opportunities to achieve success,” recognising the school’s commitment to all-round education.
The shortlisting follows a year of standout moments, including Mr Metcalfe’s now-viral festive video — a playful homage to Love Actually, which encouraged pupils to see role modelling as something that can take many different forms.
The full shortlist can be found on the Tes website.
We look forward to celebrating this well-deserved recognition and wish Mr Metcalfe and all shortlisted finalists the very best of luck.
