Arriving from overseas – Autumn Term 2021

Update - 29th July 2021

The UK Government has recently announced that children under 18 from the USA and listed European countries will be able to travel to England from amber countries without having to quarantine or take a day 8 test. This also applies to passengers fully vaccinated with authorised vaccines in the Europe and the USA. This takes effect from the 2nd August and will be welcome news for many of our pupils. As detailed below, pupils will still need to:

  • Take an approved Covid test in the 3 days before departure
  • Book a day 2 test
  • Complete a passenger locator form

Pupils who no longer need to quarantine should arrive in College at the scheduled times of:

2.30pm on 1st September - for new pupils

6.30pm on 2nd September - for returning pupils

Please would parents and guardians update/cancel any requests for College quarantine by contacting:

Whereabouts forms for the start of term can be re-submitted at the following link:

The European countries that this new rule applies to are: EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City. Please note that separate rules continue to apply for pupils arriving from France.

Vaccines must be authorised by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for Europe, SwissMedic for Switzerland or Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the USA and the final dose is administered at least 14 days before arrival. Further information can be found here:

The UK travel update can be found here: Updated red, amber and green list rules can be found here:

We will continue to update parents and guardians as appropriate. In the meantime, I hope you are all having a very good summer.

Update – 20th July 2021

Updated quarantine rules were published by the UK Government on the 19th July 2021 but I am afraid there has been no change to the quarantine requirements for many of our international pupils arriving from amber list countries. Quarantine is still necessary, unless the pupil is:

  • Fully vaccinated in the UK or under the UK vaccine programme overseas
  • Participating or have participated in a formally approved clinical trial of a coronavirus vaccine in the UK
  • Ordinarily resident in the UK and under the age of 18 at the time they arrive

Updated UK Government Guidance is here:

We are keeping a close eye on updates and we are hoping for positive clarification from the UK Government regarding pupils travelling to the UK for boarding school and for pupils who have had vaccinations in their own country and we will let you know if we receive any positive news.

International Travel

We are aware that international travel is currently very challenging, and we are here to support. Government guidance is changing regularly, and every effort is made to keep this page updated. Please communicate with your HouseM and if you have any queries about quarantine in College, please contact: We hope that you have a lovely summer, and we are looking forward to seeing you in Malvern College in September.

Whereabouts Form

All pupils should complete this Whereabouts Form. This means that all the information will be collated centrally, and Houses will have access to all the information. If changes are needed, it is possible to edit the submitted form:

Bus/coach/taxi travel to the College

Details of transport with GT Matrix can be found on the Parent Hub of the school website; please click on ‘Coach Timetable’. The College encourages the use of GT Matrix for all pupils given its Covid-safe and safeguarding protocols. Parents/guardians should complete this form only when booking a taxi or scheduled coach with GT Matrix:

UK Government Guidance

UK Government rules can be found here. Please check these websites regularly because the guidelines do change. These rules must be followed even if you have been vaccinated or have antibodies to coronavirus:

Pupils arriving from amber list countries

Our strong recommendation is that pupils arriving from amber list countries should stay with guardians for the quarantine period. All overseas pupils should have an appointed guardian and our experience during the pandemic is that there are many pastoral advantages of pupils quarantining in a home environment with a guardian, especially before a long school term. It can be particularly challenging for pupils new to the College if their first experience of a new school is in quarantine and we recommend staying with a guardian.

We will open a boys’ boarding house and a girls’ boarding house for quarantine for pupils returning to us from amber list countries who are not able to stay with guardians. The Houses will be open from Saturday 21st August and pupils must arrive in College before 9pm on Monday 23rd August if they wish to quarantine in College. To book a place in quarantine at College, please email:

Before travelling to England, you must:

Check with your airline and Government to confirm requirements before departure.

Take a Covid19 PCR test in the three days before departure. The proof must be in English, French or Spanish.

Book and pay for day 2 and day 8 Covid PCR travel tests. If quarantining in College, please book these with Wren Healthcare:

Pupils arriving from red list countries

UK law states that pupils arriving from red list countries must quarantine in boarding school, unless they are quarantining in a government approved hotel with their parents. We will therefore open a boarding house for pupils arriving from red list countries. Pupils should arrive between Saturday 21st August and Monday 23rd August.

Pupils travelling from red list Countries must carry two letters with them:

1. Please email in the week beginning 16th August to request a travel letter from Malvern College which must be carried by the pupil to enter the UK. When emailing Ria Wilkins, please state the red List country they will travel from or through, departure airport, airline, flight number, arrival airport, arrival time, passport number they are travelling on.

2. Please email to request a letter from the Department of Education. Please print, read and carry this letter from the Department of Education.

If pupils are travelling from or through a red list country, they must travel directly to Malvern and they must be met by GT Matrix (as the school’s representative). Please book using this link: )

The coach or taxi provided is not permitted to stop at any point on the way to Malvern so pupils should be advised to use toilet facilities at the airport after disembarking from the aircraft.

Before travel to England you must:

Check with your airline and Government to confirm requirements before departure.

Take a Covid19 PCR test in the three days before departure. The proof must be in English, French or Spanish.

If you are quarantining in Malvern College: Confirm ‘yes’ when asked ‘Are you travelling for a reason that means you do not need to quarantine?’

Please note: this question is intended to be about quarantining in a government-approved facility rather than related to boarding school students quarantining in accommodation provided by their school (which remains mandatory under the arrangements for such students who have travelled from or through a red list country);

Then confirm the appropriate exception to hotel quarantine which is: Travelling from abroad to a boarding school (England, Northern Ireland and Scotland only)

Then confirm that ‘yes’ they need to self-isolate

Then confirm that ‘yes’ they know where they will be staying on arrival

Then provide the address: Malvern College, College Road, Malvern, WR14 3DF

Then confirm that they are required to complete COVID19 tests and provide the booking reference for these tests.
