Entry at 13+

As a general rule we suggest that prospective pupils currently attending UK preparatory or junior schools visit the College when they are in Year 6. Initial enquiries are often made before then and it is routine practice for parents who are narrowing their options to pay an initial visit to the school when their child is in Year 5.

For entry at 13+ we recommend that you register your child a minimum of two years ahead of the proposed term of entry. There are three methods of entry:

13+ Common Entrance (CE) Examination taken in June of the year of entry. Pupils are expected to achieve an average of 50%.

Malvern College Entrance Tests taken in January/February in the year of entry. This is for pupils who have not been prepared for CE. Candidates will be tested in Science, Mathematics and English.

The Independent Schools Examination Board Common Academic Scholarship taken at the school in February of the year of entry.

There are several occasions when pupils will be invited into school as part of the admissions process, including an Admissions Day held in the November of Year 7.

Entry at 14+ (Year 10)

Registration should take place at least 18 months in advance of the proposed term of entry. Admission is dependent upon satisfactory performance in both the Malvern College Entrance Tests and at interview. Prospective pupils should visit the school in the year prior to entry.

Entry at 15+ (Pre-Sixth Form Course (Year 11)

Each year we admit a number of 15 year old children to our Pre-Sixth Form Course (Year 11). This course is intended to prepare and qualify pupils for Sixth Form study in either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) and is specifically designed for international pupils or British children living abroad who until this point have not been educated in the UK system. Most pupils will take six or seven IGCSEs (maximum eight), but this is dependent on their progress through the year.

Entry at 16+

Each September approximately 30 - 40 pupils are admitted into the Lower Sixth to begin a 2 year A Level or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Course (the split across the Sixth Form is broadly 50/50). Parents should register their child 18 months in advance of the proposed term of entry.

In order to gain a place in the Sixth Form, pupils are expected to gain a minimum of six (I) GCSE passes which must include the following:

- English and Mathematics

- a minimum of three grades "5"s

- a minimum of three grades "6"s

- at least "6"s in the three subjects they wish to study at A Level or International Baccalaureate Higher Level.

In addition, at least a "7" will be required for Maths A Level and at least "8" for Further Maths A level and IB Higher Level Maths. While a "7" or above is advisable for A Level or IB higher level science subjects it is not essential. We also require pupils to pass entrance tests in their chosen A Level / Higher Level subjects (in the November of the year prior to entry) and all candidates must visit the school for an interview before an offer of a place will be made

References will also be sought from the pupil’s current school.

Pupils based overseas may sit their entrance tests either at Malvern College or an authorised office, and arrangements should be made with the admissions office.
