Malvern College was delighted to host another fantastic edition of the Eight8s Cricket Competition, welcoming talented young cricketers from across the region for a memorable day of fast-paced cricket, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Schools and clubs taking part included Prestfelde, Moor Park, Pinewood, The Elms, The Downs Malvern, and Colwall Cricket Club, with players competing in the exciting Eight8s format – an energetic version of the game designed to maximise involvement and enjoyment. The competition builds on Malvern College’s long-standing cricketing tradition, with cricket having been played at the College since 1872.
Despite challenging weather conditions throughout the day, the standard of cricket and determination shown by every team never wavered. Rain showers and difficult outfields did little to dampen spirits, as players continued to display resilience, enthusiasm, and an impressive love for the game.
Prestfelde enjoyed a particularly successful tournament, taking home honours including Winners, Runners-Up, Best Boy, and Best Girl performances across the competition. However, the day was about far more than results, with every school contributing to a brilliant atmosphere both on and off the field.
Alongside the quality of cricket on display, the behaviour, encouragement, and sportsmanship demonstrated by all players were a credit to their schools and clubs. Staff, spectators, and organisers alike praised the positive attitudes shown throughout the event.
The Eight8s competition continues to grow as a highlight of the prep school cricket calendar, combining competitive cricket with the values of teamwork, enjoyment, and participation in the spectacular surroundings of Malvern College.
A huge thank you goes to all schools, clubs, staff, parents, and supporters who helped make the day such a success. We are already looking forward to welcoming teams back next year.
