Today we stepped out of our rooms and admired the amazing Arenal volcano which we were going to visit and learn about later on in the day. After taking in this incredible sight, we had a brilliant buffet breakfast and we were on the road heading towards our first destination of the day. The La Fortuna waterfall! On the way to this natural beauty, we stopped off to get our clothes washed at the Costa Rican laundrette.
We eventually reached the La Fortuna waterfall and got changed into our swimwear before walking down 500 steps to reach the bottom of the waterfall. Even though the 500 steps to the bottom were somewhat tiresome it was worth it in the end as we were allowed to swim in the beauty of La Fortuna’s bright blue plunge pool that was surrounded by the vibrant rainforest. We walked back up the endless stairs and treated ourselves to a well-deserved ice cream at the La Fortuna restaurant.
We headed off for lunch at La Fonda where we enjoyed a typical Costa Rican buffet lunch followed by a spot of exploring the town and buying souvenirs in the nearby shops.
The third destination of the day was the Arenal volcano which we had previously woken up to outside of our hotel windows in the morning. We hiked up a rocky path to admire this breath-taking view of Costa Rica’s most famous and still active volcano. We also learnt about the fascinating history of how the volcano was formed and it’s eruptivity by our tour guide Fabian, Henny Pope and Mr Vogt.
We finally hopped onto the bus to travel to the Baldi hot springs. The hot springs entertained us as it kept us busy till dinner time. From stepping out of your comfort zone and trying the dare devilling waterslides that reached 27mph to soaking in the 30 different spring fed pools of geothermally heated water. The springs really did fill everyone’s boots. In the evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the hot springs before traveling back to Los Lagos for a well-deserved sleep.
