Costa Rica Day 10 – early morning boat trip and a visit to Tortuguero village

Another early alarm in order to embark on our boat trip at 6 am! The pupils all seemed tired, however, it was very rewarding in terms of the wildlife that we spotted. There were many different types of heron, a gartered trogon, a couple of cayman, several monkeys and most appropriately (on Easter Sunday) a couple of basilisk lizards (commonly called Jesus lizards as they run on top of the water). We arrived back at the hotel at 8.30 am and were pleased to have our breakfast!

The rest of the morning was spent relaxing by the pool, catching up on sleep or revising!

In the afternoon we caught the water taxi to the village of Tortuguero where we could visit the beach on the Caribbean sea and also have a look around the small village to get a flavour of Costa Rican life in such a small village. The pupils enjoyed browsing the various shops and bought some souvenirs, then whilst waiting for our water taxi back to our hotel we all had ice creams or smoothies.

A definite highlight at dinner was the Costa Rican rice pudding!

After dinner a study group gathered (again!) and the rest of the pupils were packing ready for our departure from Evergreen Lodges and our journey back to San Jose tomorrow.
