Tennis at Malvern enjoys great success in all age groups. We are lucky to have the use of 12 recently re-surfaced outdoor courts and two indoor courts which are available to us all year round. Although Inter-House matches are only played in the Summer term, pupils can have individual coaching from the local Tennis club, Manor Park, throughout the school year.
Malvern takes part in many external competitions: the Aberdare Cup, the Glanvill Cup, Aegon league and the District and County tournaments. Internal competitions include House matches and junior leagues. Every Sunday evening, the Common Room plays against pairs from each House in a friendly competition which is enjoyed by all.
Every year in May, we host the boys' and girls' county doubles tournaments. Our teachers in charge of boys' and girls' Tennis run the sport and we also make use of external, well-qualified Tennis coaches in the Summer term.
Private Tennis Tuition for Malvern College Pupils
Malvern College has been involved with Malvern Tennis Academy for a considerable number of years. Based in Great Malvern, at Manor Park Club, the Academy offers group and individual tennis lessons for children of all ages and abilities. The Academy was formed by Jane Poynder who is a LTA Level 5 Master Development Coach and LTA Master Tutor and Chris Skinner who is an LTA Level 4 Senior Performance Coach. Both have a wealth of experience coaching at all levels and are joined by a team of other expert coaches who can provide both individual and small group lessons for students of the college at mutually convenient times. Chris takes the team training for both boys’ and girls’ school teams.
Lessons take place at the school tennis courts (The Firs), or during the two winter terms sessions can be taken at Manor Park Club where there are three indoor courts plus six floodlit. There is an additional charge for use of both indoor courts and floodlit courts. Details of all the current charges and other information is available from Malvern Tennis Academy:email@example.com

Teacher i/c Tennis (Boys): Richard Thurlow
I played Tennis and Real Tennis at Cambridge University before arriving at Malvern in 1984 to teach Classics and run the Junior Tennis teams. Since 1996 I have been Teacher i/c Boys' Tennis and organise the fixtures and practices for the Senior Tennis teams and the annual Malvern College Tennis Tournament for Prep Schools. I have been keen to bring in the expertise of professional coaches and was delighted to appoint Chris Skinner from the Poynder Coaching Team to work enthusiastically with the boys and girls and improve their stroke-play and match tactics. Over the last few years Malvern College players have been able to make use of Chris' coaching all year round in the excellent facilities at the local Malvern Indoor Tennis Centre.
Teacher i/c Tennis (Girls): Barbara Swart
I came to Malvern College in 2010 to teach Mathematics and have been the Teacher i/c of Girls’ Tennis since 2014. I have always been a keen tennis player and played competitive tennis myself all through school. These days I enjoy a social game with family and friends. We are fortunate to have the expertise and enthusiasm of professional coach Chris Skinner, who comes to the school to do a coaching session once a week during the tennis season and also coaches many of the girls individually throughout the year. We won the Girls’ County Schools’ Singles Championship in 2014 and 2015. The U14’s were placed 3rd in the u14 Girls’ Junior County Schools’ Doubles Championship and the U15’s were runners up in the U16 Junior County Schools’ Doubles Championship. Tennis is popular amongst the girls and we field a minimum of nine teams.
