Facilities for Netball at Malvern College allow pupils of all abilities to develop their own personal skills at recreational (PE lessons) or team level (Games time).
Provision for netball at Malvern College is outstanding. As part of our aim to increase the opportunity for College students to play netball outside of school and progress through the England performance pathway we have developed a link with Hucclecote Netball Club. Through the club, players gain the opportunity to be nominated for the County Academy and Severn Stars U17 & U19 performance pathway programs (dependent on age/ ability). We currently have several players attending county academy and the Severn Stars U17 program as a result of this link.
In school time, elite players have access to one to one coaching sessions, two S&C sessions per week and one to one meetings to discuss time management, nutrition, target setting and lifestyle guidance.
Teacher i/c Netball: Rhian Jenkins
I am currently completing my UKCC L3 in Netball. I started coaching at Exeter Netball Club whilst studying Sports Science at the University of Exeter. From September 2011 I worked as a Netball intern at Millfield school. More recently I have coached Gloucestershire County academy and the South West Regional Academy (Glos), as well as Old Chelts club. I have worked at Malvern College since 2012 and have always believed the girls have great potential in netball – more recently the girls are seeing success as a team on tour and as individuals at both County and regional level–a real progression. The Severn Stars franchise and Hucclecote Netball Club will continue to provide excellent opportunities for our players. I am very excited about what the future has to hold.
Netball Coach: Thea Brookes
I have played sport from a young age and always enjoyed the challenge of developing my skills. This, for me, was enhanced through studying Physical Education and Sports Studies at the University of Worcester. I have been coaching Netball for over three years and have gained my UKCC Level 2 accreditation and enjoy all levels of coaching. As well as developing players at Malvern College, I am the Head Coach for the University of Worcester’s 3rd and 4th teams and have recently become the Lead Coach at Malvern Netball Club for juniors within the Malvern District. During my time at Malvern College I have been lucky enough to work in an engaging and challenging environment where “process over outcome” is our philosophy. As such, I work with teachers and coaches who are passionate about learning and the development of young people. I have had an incredible experience thus far and am looking forward to developing the Netball programme further at Malvern College.
