Economics, Politics, Business Studies, Business Management

Malvern has a long history of teaching Economics and Politics and we have recently added the teaching of Business Studies and Business Management to the department range of studies. Currently we teach A level Economics, Business Studies and Politics, and International Baccalaureate Higher and Standard Economics and Business Management. Well over 200 pupils are currently studying these subjects in the Sixth Form.

The Malvern Economics, Politics, Business Studies and Business Management department returned to action in fine form this September.

With 10 teaching staff and over 230 pupils we will be seeking to replicate and build upon many years of academic success.

This year our examination results were very good indeed;

  • IB Higher Level Economics 75% of pupils achieved 7-6 IB points, with 40% achieving the top grade.
  • A level Economics 93% of pupils achieved A*-C, with over 40% of pupils achieving A*/A grades. A very impressive set of results for the first year of the new specification.
  • A level Business Studies group also performed strongly with 85% achieving A*-C grades.
  • A level Government and Politics 90% of students achieved A* - B grades.

Over the last five years, on average, 40% of Upper Sixth leavers going on to university do so to study degrees directly related to the three subjects taught in the department. In 2017 we maintained our regular Oxford and Cambridge success rate. Over the years pupils have regularly been awarded places on courses such as Economics, HSPS, Land Economy, PPE and Economics and Management each year. We have a current cohort of hopefuls this year too who we will support in their quest to similarly gain their places at prestigious universities.

Whilst the global economy goes through its many cycles, it is fair to say that the Malvern Economics Department continues to chart a strong course of academic rigour, aiming to flourish and continue to produce good results.
